Week of March 4 - 8: Monday - complete the blank map of Europe in 1914 so you have it for your notes. After this is completed, also copy the Africa in 1914 map onto the blank map. Only label the countries on the Africa map that are requested. Don't forget your map titles and labels. Please be neat and accurate with your labels. Tuesday - Quiz (30 minutes) which involves all we have done so far; this includes history from 1900-1914 as well as information on types of governments and economies. Maps of Europe and Africa are included. Tuesday - also completed the note 'Eur Afr Observations'. Wednesday - Video: 'Causes of World War 1'. History from 1900-1914 test on Thursday (will include everything done to date, up to the Europe and Africa 1914 maps, including observations about the maps). Friday - seminar in library with Mrs. Gilchrist about proper online and print sourcing. Brief introduction of our major WW1 assignment. Chatterbox groups browse newspapers to identify ways that information is offered (ie. editorial, news articles, comics, etc.), and consider which of these they would be interesting in creating for their group assignment. Brief time to browse the internet for interesting WW1 facts.

Week of March 18 - 22: Monday - Discussed found facts on WW1. Took up the video handout for 'Causes of WW1'. Went through the options that the different groups will choose from for their WW1 newspaper assignment. Groups chose their top 3 favourite choices. Tuesday - Groups choose final group topics and divide up the topics. Practice identifying key words and brainstorming key words. Use brainstorming to build guiding research questions. Wednesday - Groups brainstorm topics on chart paper. Thursday - Groups use topic brainstorming to develop 3 guiding questions for each topic; to be handed in for review and feedback. Friday - groups begin research based on guiding questions
Week of March 25 - 28: Monday - Research period. Tuesday - review newspaper assignment formal outline.
